UNIQUE SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION IN THE HEART OF THE GRANITE CITY
About The Area
Footdee
Our beautiful cottage is located in the unique fishing village of Footdee - one of Scotland’s hidden gems. The village consists of a collection of colourful cottages, each adorned with its own character and style. The houses are clustered together in squares, creating a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Strolling through the lanes, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time.
History
Footdee was originally designed by architect John Brown in 1809 to house Aberdeen’s fishermen and their families. It was designed to provide shelter from the harsh coastal elements while being conveiently close to their fishing boats. Over the years, Footdee's fishing community thrived and the village became a tight-knit community.
However, during the 20th century, the fishing industry faced challenges and while a lot of the cottages are still inhabited by descendants of the fisherman, other residents have moved in and take pride in preserving its history and welcoming visitors to explore its beauty.
Beach
One of Aberdeen's main attractions is its striking coastline, which stretches for approximately 2 miles and offers breathtaking views. Aberdeen beach is known for its picturesque scenery with golden sand. It boasts a vibrant wild swimming and water sports community. Along the promenade, you'll find several shops, restaurants, cafes and ice cream shops where you can grab a bit to eat. The beach front also features an amusement park called Codona's offering fun rides, arcade games 10-pin bowling, indoor karting and crazy golf. More recently, a number of food vans and stalls have popped up on the beach front offering a variety of snacks and refreshments.
